Japanese culture “Setsubun” on February 2nd.

For February 2nd, 2021, it is an event in Japan called Setsubun.
We celebrate the coming of spring, even though it is still cold.
On that day, we throw away beans with saying “oni wa soto, fuku wa uchi”.
It means “Devils out! Happiness in”.
Throwing the soybeans, represents getting rid of bad luck and welcoming good luck.

In addition, we eat beans as numbers as their age and eat “Ehoumaki” that is thick sushi roll. And when eating Ehoumaki, look in the year’s good luck direction, and eat quietly while making a wish. It is regarded as good thing to eat Ehoumaki in Setsubun.

Enjoy Japanese culture!!
